Győr - Last summer came up the idea of a short fiction film which will be shot with actors from Győr in the cellar of the City Archive and the yard of the Kazinczy High School this weekend. The completed film can be watched at the opening ceremony of the MEDIAWAVE Festival.

'On the anniversary of the Film Week, a new-wave generation came up', said Jenő Hartyándi, who, as later admitted, was highly impressed by his jury-mate, the Oscar-winner cinematographer, Vilmos Zsigmond.
The feature film jury of the 40th Hungarian Film Week had been watching 18 films in a few days. The member from Győr of the prestigious jury told our paper that they worked in a very intense tempo: they sat into the projection room at ten in the morning and after a short lunch break, they finished watching the films around half past ten...

Several Győr-related artists won prestigeous prizes at the 40th Hungarian Film Week.
First we mention the actor of the National Theatre of Győr, István Szilágyi, who received the Life Achievement Award. He acted in Zoltán Huszárik's Szinbád as well but this is history now. The presence is for the young people!
The Best Actress Award went to Júlia Ubrankovics for a role in Péter Bacsó's Almost Virgin who studied in Győr and worked at the MEDIAWAVE Festival.
Vidamon Tóth Máté won the Best Cinematographer Award for his work in the sci-fi '1'.
Finally but not at last we would like to mention Éva Zabezsinszkij, the dramaturg of the Grand Prix winner film, Last Times, who has just won the prize of Filmfund Győr's application with her screenplay.

The Filmfund Győr announced the award-winners of its first synopsis, short film and screenplay application at the press conference of the 40th Hungarian Film Week.
From among the 23 feature film plan, the jury awarded Péter Szalay's screenplay titled Border-Line Case. The film focuses on the GDR and FRG events when the borders in Sopron were opened. The director has done thorough pre-work in the related topic.
Mihály Buzás received Honourable Mention for the treatment 'Stary Sky' which, in satiric form, examines the secret moon landing plans of a little village.
Dr. Rudolf Ottófi, the vice mayor handed the prizes and held a speech for the press representatives.

Astillero will open the concert series of next MEDIAWAVE on 25th April. This article is from 2007, before the band came for it's first European tour.

MEDIAWAVE Passport Control Staff ran shows featuring a mobile exhibition, a screening and a concert for highschool students to inform them about the opportunities of participating the multi-art festival and it’s related workshops either artists or organizers as well. The Passport Control tour had it’s first to visit the Krúdy Gyula Secondary Grammar School, Bilingual Secondary School and Vocational School for Tourism and Catering at Győr.

Since much more films have been submitted until November, 2008 (one and half month before the deadline) into the film competition programme of MEDIAWAVE Film and Music Festival’2009, than ever before, the preselection committee began their work at the weekend 22-23 November. As a result of it six films have been selected into the competition programme.
